It’s not worth it to let laziness stop you from taking your wet clothes out of the washing machine right after the cycle ends. We have all been there, but this bad habit will cause your clothes to smell like gross mold and mildew. Damp clothes can also start to grow mold in your washing machine which brings us to the first place you might find mold in your laundry room.
Mold In the Washing Machine
Your washing machine is the perfect place for mold growth since it is dark, moist, and wet. Some fancy washing machines will spin your clothes after the cycle is finished, but even that will have your clothes growing mold if you leave them in there long enough.
Mold in Hose Connections
Check the hose connections by the wall and the washing machine to see if there are any leaks. Your washing machine will vibrate with regular use, and those vibrations may cause your hose connections to loosen up and can start leaking water and leaking leads to mold. If you suspect that your hose connections may be leaking and that you may have water damage in your walls, you should have a mold inspection done.
Mold in Sinks
Many people have sinks in their laundry rooms and sinks are notorious for having leaks and causing mold growth. If you suspect that you may have an issue with your sink, it may be a good idea to have a mold inspection done.
Mold in Wet Laundry
We have all at some point accidentally dropped a wet sock on the floor while transferring a load of laundry from the washing machine to the dryer. A damp sock on your laundry room floor is the perfect place for mold to begin growing. Especially if that wet sock finds it’s way into a dark place like underneath a chair, the washing machine or table. With all the moisture, darkness, warm air, and lack of ventilation things can get pretty bad. When you are rushing to get things done, things can get overlooked so try to be mindful and take an extra glance.
